Our Ongoing Efforts

The world has been greatly impacted by the fast-moving COVID-19 global pandemic. Science has been moving at breakneck speed as researchers around the globe look to understand the structure of the virus, the molecular pathway of infection, the immune response, and how to develop cutting-edge diagnostics, therapeutics, and effective vaccines to end the ongoing pandemic.

At Akadeum Life Sciences, we have been working to aid in ongoing efforts in a variety of ways:

Supporting Research

Our innovative cell isolation technology can be used for a variety of applications, including critical work in COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2 research. In particular, our RBC Depletion kit can be used to quickly and gently clean up a sample for downstream processing, and our Human T Cell Isolation kits offer a fast, easy, and gentle workflow for isolating and enriching samples for research into these critical immune cells. Our products continue to be in-stock and readily available, and we are prepared to continue supporting researchers through these challenging times.

Expanding Diagnostic Testing

Combating a fast-moving pandemic like COVID-19 requires fast and accurate diagnostic tests with quick turnaround times. Current testing methods are challenging and limited, but Akadeum is actively working on developing an innovative approach to pooled saliva testing. We have recently expanded our microbubble platform by functionalizing our buoyancy-activated separation technology for RNA isolation in saliva samples. Our goal is to create a workflow that allows for quick and easy RNA extraction in larger volume samples; creating a platform for pooled saliva testing that can be performed at scale.

Community Involvement

We are actively involved in supporting frontline healthcare workers by providing personal protective equipment (PPE) and other materials as needed. This enables them to continue their important triage and treatment work. If you are interested in getting involved, Michigan Medicine is currently accepting contributions.
